This is the Univercity of Ott.
You see Ott. If I do this right.
My family is responsible for a great deal of the theory that I hold. Their names don’t appear in any books that I like to quote, but their influence is everywhere with me, Good and bad. I’m not gonna talk about a great deal of bad crap because I want to focus on stuff where I think we should go, not where we shouldn’t, that doesn’t mean I won’t mention it now and then but when I do I’ll be talking about my own crap, and I don’t want it to be something I dwell on, these presentations are meant to be fun, stimulating and educational for me. it is my intention to document everything to indicate where it’s from so if I have help from artificial intelligence like I do, I’m trying to let you know when I’m using it and how I’m using it and there will be references to the dialogue or copies of that dialogue available not that people are gonna wanna go through it a whole lot. It would take you forever, but I want it so that you can find it if you want it.
Mr. Silman was my next-door neighbor. He was probably in his sixties, and he seem to like me for some reason and I felt that kindness. I mostly just watched, listened to the radio and hung out when I was bored. He had three cats that were distinct and cool. He had a little dog and he started to teach about kindness in the way he treated everything… including me.His workshop was full of stuff, radios, tools, clocks, tools, He built a sailboat in there and he had some pulleys and chains to pull an engine and he fixed everything. He had a horse a field to Hay and, old kids and, he didn’t preach and he saw me. Religious, but he didn’t talk about it to me. Musical, he didn’t talk about, but played just about anything and often. And… He had been in an accident long before I was born. He didn’t use a cane but he hobbled every where, and never seemed to rush.

I have roots and connection to exchange theory where BF Skinner and behaviorism play a central role, and to the art and noise of Yoko Ono where John Lennon also plays a central role. I am also deeply connected to the world of surveillance and artificial intelligence. In 1983 I was connected to the main frame at UBC where Howard Becker, Erving Goffman, and and and so many other Sociologists were invoked upon me. Indeed I lean toward social analysis not because I believe all behavior is socially derived but because society plays a role, genetics is a no brainer for me and it’s interesting but sociologists like Goffman, Becker and Harold Garfinkel, who interestingly aligns quite nicely with Yoko Ono, and exchange theory as I see it.
i’m highly influenced by Newtonian Mechanics and I attempt to apply it with behaviorism as in Skinners version (my definition) but I tend to focus on social institutions and such. It’s a good way to deflect criticism, because always has another cause. I think this endless cycle ends in Gods lap. Helps me to be nice and love in my own way sitting here on God’s Lap top.

The Universe city of Ott, established in 1995, is a de-institutionalized example of public education. The principle purpose of this enterprize is to develop within ScOtt an understanding of the nature of Ott.
Sosillyology is a theory ScOtt is developing at the Univercity of Ott. This theory is enabled through presentation and is designed as audio visual units.
(This is an example of self directed studies.)
www.ucott.ca is an attempt to emerse the ‘Univercity of Ott’ into the dialectics of the internet.
A theory which attempts to logically or rationally place the common sense notion of ‘be nice’ at the forefront of value in ScOtt’s life.
Ott started out as the big half of my name ‘Scott’. In 1984 i was finishing my degree from UBC in all out stress mode, trying to do far more than i ever could have believed a high school drop out could do, when the incessant urge to write a story emerged. i had taken a children’s literature course in the first semester of that year and that, of course, fueled an already lit fire. My children were young at this time and enjoyed my research immensely. i was constantly bringing home stories to read. Writing notes about ideas i had for particular stories was sometimes a source of humor. One night with papers to do and exams close at hand i began playing with words, misspelling them to see what psychoanalytic quirkiness would manifest. Breaking words into silly ables and pushing them to hear here a difference carried me to break my own name. i quickly noted the quirky nature of Ott. The Ott – Ought connection made me smile. The Ott – Aught connection made me think. After a couple of hours of writing things down i could see that, if i did not forget my childish stories and get back to my papers and preparation for exams, i was not gonna’ be happy when i got the results.
Sc Ott is now my name. i’ve played with this name since 1984 and have become very attached to it. For many years i was David Bruce Scott Petersen. i am now legally Sc Ott. The Canadian Government has informed me that i must have two names under Canadian Law. My preference was to have one name ScOtt. The Sc is like the Mc in McDonald, but due to my desire to get along with others i have agreed to my first name being Sc and my last name Ott. i like to be called ScOtt, and i don’t believe in titles such as ‘Dr.’ or ‘Mr.’ i believe they are a means of organizing heirarchies and are best avoided.
i am continually alluding to the ‘ought’ or moral imperative contained within Ott. This is a personal operative in that Ott is ScOtt’s philosophy and is not intended to guide anyone else. i don’t mind sharing Ott, and indeed, sharing seems to be an essential component of Ott, in that the dialectics that unfold within sharing, set up a means of assessment or accountability; however, and more to the point as i see it, people have to create their own philosophy for it to have the intrinsic power of a personal relationship.
When i began designing the logo for my philosophical endeavor i just put the two t’s in the middle of the O and i liked what i saw, i also noted the double cross, and i’ve tried to maintain that as the design has progressed. The explicit reference to the ‘double cross’ is a built in warning for anyone who wishes to believe what i have to say. Please be wise enough to understand that ScOtt is, amongst many other things, a pot head intellectual who does not have or want a claim to fame. i am grateful for any of those who find my journey interesting, but the point here is protect yourself, anything i say should be verified with great care.
i continue to learn what Ott is as i go along. A few years ago a friend of mine from England said that she thought that i had borrowed the english term ‘OTT’ which to them means ‘Over The Top’, or a little too crazy. At that time i had been using the term for about five years, and that was the first i had heard of the english interpretation, but i liked it a lot.
The moral imperative that i have embedded at the core of my philosophy radiates from many sources, all of which, no doubt, have one mother. My mother embodies much of what i think of when i think of Ott. My mother is not perfect, but she’s perfect for me. She practices kindness at a rate that would make Jesus proud and yet she tolerates the pounding of intolerance. It is my intention to build kindness into my philosophy, and thus it is that i introduce the moral imperative ‘be nice’ at the base of my theory. i continually refine and build upon my emerging notion of this quaint term.
i repeat myself here, but it is most important to note that this is a moral imperative for ScOtt, and is in no way a part of my conscious expectation of others. Clearly, i remain a wretched case when it comes to practicing what i am preaching to myself, so others need not fear the imperialism of righteousness. i set out ‘be nice’, in the common sense manner in which i try to spell it out below, as a goal, a mantra, a guide.
i am a social scientist of sorts. i like to attach myself to Sociology, a discipline i am very fond of and follow with a great deal of intensity. i have an honors BA from the University of British Columbia and i hope to continue some kind of Distance Education program in the near future. My artistic, or, as i would have it, ottistic creation ‘The Universe city of Ott’ is something i am clearly attached to, but it is a far cry from engulfing my entire life. i will pursue what i refer to as ‘institutionalized education’, with a great deal of effort, and, to the degree that i can, i will integrate the Universe city of Ott where possible. But it is important to note that ‘Ott’ or ‘The Universe city of Ott’ would not likely look anything like it does now if i had not attended University. Many, many, many other forces or things have had significant impact upon the development of Ott, but my experience in our institutionalized education system has been momentous. Not, of course, as momentous as the influence of my mother.
So there we have it. The Universe city of Ott^2 is a continuation, via the internet, of ScOtt’s education as presented at The Universe city of Ott. i attached ‘^2’ to The Universe city of Ott because i believe the internet could provide an energy factor of significant proportion. i will soon have ‘The Universe city of Ott^2’ web site, which will be dedicated to sharing The Universe city of Ott.
Ott and common sense
Common sense is a topic of considerable interest to sociologists. A great deal of my common sense notion of how things ought to be, have been seriously challenged by the evidence and ‘arguments’ presented by social theorists. What i have found is that my notion of what common sense is has changed, but long before i entered University i had obviously noticed that what i thought was common sense at one moment, for instance the existance of ‘Santa Claus’, could be, at another moment, something quite different but somehow still common sense. It seemed to be common sense, that as you got older you tend to look back at what you thought was common sense when you were young as just a bit naive. Much of sociology examines this fluid notion of common sense and provides little in the way of an anchor for establishing moral principles.
i like to start with what i call a common sense notion of the term ‘be nice’. How does my mother express this term and what does she mean?
Treat people with respect; by which i believe mom means that i should consider how other people feel about what i am doing, and when considering such effects and affects i should be careful not to ‘unduly’ harm anyone. Mom also wants me to respect myself as well. Sometimes, the manner in which treating others with respect and treating myself with respect are integrated manifests rather complicated affects and effects. i don’t mean to be undully obtuse here but i like words and it bears repeating in another colour – Sometime treating others with respect conflicts with treating ones self with respect. An example might clarify this. Respecting the police Prohibition.
Mom likes people who can stand up for what they believe in without being pushy. My mom loves to go to lacrosse games. She doesn’t mind a good fight, but she can’t stand dirty stuff. i’ve heard her note the importance of turning the other cheek, at least once in a while, and she’s quick to encourage a sense of obligation to help those less fortunate. Obviously quite a religious influence in my common sense notion of ‘be nice’, but compassion has many roots not all of which are religious. Mohandas Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Albert Silman, Bill Petersen, Russel Petersen, Rayanne Petersen, Jim Petersen, John Petersen, Dave Pearce and many other individuals who i admire and view as ‘kind’ have all contributed to this common sense notion of ‘be nice’. All of these individuals are quite unique and their approaches to religion are equally unique as well, but all of them contain in varying degrees aspects of ‘be nice’ that i can articulate quite clearly. In doing so i would hope to develop a clearer vision of what i mean be ‘be nice’.
i suspect that most people already have a pretty clear idea of what i mean when i use the term ‘be nice’ in this manner; however, i know very well how slippery this ‘common sense’ notion can be. As a matter of ‘fact’ when i get serious about it, i realize i have no idea what so ever what being nice would actually look like. When i think of what my mom means and the other people i know, it seems pretty clear, but , i have spent a great deal of time challenging my common sense notion of things.
Let me talk about Albert Silman to illustrate what i could equally well illustrate with each of the individuals that that i have earlier mentioned. Albert Silman was a neighbor of mine when i was young. i often enjoyed wandering between the few trees that separated our homes. Mr. Silman was usually working in his shop. We were building a boat together. It was about a 20 ft inboard with a little cabin and a beautiful steering wheel that i got to steer. That boat took a long time to build, probably a couple of years. i used to show up maybe once a week when my brothers weren’t around and i was bored. i always got to do something, but i’m sure that what ever i did it took Mr. Silman twice as much time to help me help him than it would have if he had done it himself. Over the years i helped Mr. Silman on a lot of projects, right up until about the time that i could have actually helped. The warmth in his greetings was such a pleasure to hear and feel.
i think i was a cute curious kid that made Mr. Silman smile a lot, so i’m sure Mr. Silman got something from me, but Mr. Silman appeared to me to try to treat everyone with this kind of generosity and care. Mr. Silman attended my Mother’s church and was always around when someone needed help, but i don’t ever remember him quoting the bible or telling me about Jesus. i remember the heat blasting from the two wood stoves that warmed the garage we had built. i remember being on the roof watching Mr. Silman lay out shingles. i had a hammer, but i was a bit afraid of slipping so i didn’t move too much. Mom was kind of worried that day, but Mr. Silman took great care. i watched our boat grow in that garage.
i have no doubt that Mr. Silman was quite human and had failings of his own that i know nothing of. However; it is not so much the reality that i wish to elude to, rather it is my perception of what Mr. Silman did that i wish to emphasize. i believe Mr. Silman cared about me and went out of his way to care for me. That felt good. i think of that when i think of someone being nice. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
i also believe that this common sense notion of ‘be nice’ is very loose indeed. i like to buoy up that looseness with what i think of as science. i have a notion of accountability here. The feeling that i get when i think of Mr. Silman can be analyzed and while i do not consciously analyze each and every feeling i have i do think about what i feel all the time, much like everyone else or so i am told (Goffman Presentation of Self in Everyday Life).

I originally performed these shows live and that’s where I would like to go again, but I’m just starting to get Back into things and I’m finding this radio show a good place to hammer out some ideas so that’s what I’m doing.
I have a series of performances or units. I have 13 or14 units each with four or so sub units. each unit is two hours long so it turns out to be about 104 hrs. 2 hrs a week. I’m using Tuesday night 10 to 12 lately and I like it (I have council meeting on from 7 to 10, but sometimes they go late If so I start my show after theirs. I don’t want to offend anyone and I know that this subject matter can be quite stressful so I’ll try to find some time that allows us all to get along
It’d be good to keep in mind that Wabi Sabi the celebration of imperfect impermanent and incomplete is intimately tied to this project. the other thing that I work a lot on is harm reduction and so nothing I do is finished And it fits nicely into harm reduction.
Mixed tape for my family
Education never ends
The reason I’m jumping in in a public way has a lot to do with Donald Trump and Elon Musk Hopefully they’ll take care of each other and we can carry on
Politics trump
Tech Elon I think we are turning Elon into a jerk drugs
If I do a good job on this, I’ll have a mixtape for my kids and I’ll get a bit of an education and I’ll move Donald along and convert Elon. To the peace side. But a couple other things happen too first of all I have a bit of time right now being retired and all and second of all the cost of equipment that I needed I needed this a really good solid laptop, and I got one and it cost me like 600 bucks so it wasn’t too bad a price But this technology is amazing and the other thing that I really needed help with was an editor and that kind of stuff and a research assistant and somebody to help me figure out how to use this computer properly and stuff and I found mine it’s ChatGPT so yeah yeah yeah can’t trust nothing that’s coming out of me because I’m totally tight into all this technology and if it’s a good thought or not so much a good thought but if it’s an intelligent thought, it’s probably come from ChatGPT. I have made myself a private tutor and I call her auntie and she’s been awesome and hopefully we’ll just carry on and put together some good shows But if you’re offended by that kind of thing I just I think you should know right off the hand is that I’ve got some great help. I’m not particularly bright, but I know how to use a couple of pieces of equipment and this is pretty Ernest in that. I’d like to my kids to listen to it and give me some feedback And they’ll put me on track so if I make that kind of connection with my kids and they know what I’m thinking and stuff and they do. We’ve talked about lots of this stuff before they kinda laugh at me but this way I get a chance to sort of develop my thoughts more fully and Yeah if I could communicator if I could transfer if I could get them to see what I see in sociology or if I can get them to be as charged as I am about learning and sociology in particular, that would be really cool. I’d love to see Jackie get into sociology. Might be really interesting. I have three children and they all have doing just fine. They don’t need nothing but damn I love my subject and I want that’s my it’s my culture. It’s my heritage to me so if I could figure out a way of passing it on, I’d be really cool and I haven’t really Shaped the music into something for a specific person. The music is mostly stuff that I either really like or that I think connects my sociological concepts with what I’m talking about.

1 URD sociology theory
Micro
1. Labeling Theory (a classic without trying)
Key idea: People become what others say they are.
Think nicknames, reputations, “the weird kid,” “the smart one,” “the troublemaker.”
Teenagers already live inside this theory.
This is most closely associated with Howard Becker, who basically said:
It’s not the rule-breaking that matters most—it’s who gets caught and labeled.
• It explains school life
• It feels fair (or unfair, which teens notice instantly)
• It gives language to something they already feel
Fun way in
• Ask: “Who decides what’s ‘normal’ here?”
• Or: “What labels follow people around your school?”
⸻
2. Dramaturgical Sociology (life as a stage 🎭)
Key idea: We’re all actors, even when we swear we’re being ‘real’.
This comes from Erving Goffman.
Front stage = how you act at school
Back stage = how you act with friends, online, or alone
• It explains code-switching without scolding
• It makes social life feel less confusing
• It’s funny once you see it (“Ohhh… everyone’s pretending”)
Fun way in
• Compare:
• Instagram You
• Classroom You
• Late-night group chat You
⸻
3. The Sociological Imagination (big picture, small lives)
Key idea: Your problems aren’t just “you.”
This comes from C. Wright Mills.
Bad grades?
Stress?
Pressure to “be something”?
Mills helps teens see the difference between:
• Personal troubles (me)
• Public issues (the system)
Why teens like it
• It’s relieving
• It takes blame off the individual
• It validates their frustration without turning it into whining
Fun way in
• Ask: “Is this a ‘me’ problem—or a ‘we built the world this way’ problem?”
⸻
4. Ethnomethodology (the joy of breaking tiny rules)
Key idea: Society is held together by invisible agreements—and it panics when you gently mess with them.
This comes from Harold Garfinkel.
• Standing facing the back wall in an elevator
• Answering “How are you?” with a 10-minute honest answer
• Acting too polite at a fast-food counter
• It’s mischievous
• It turns awkwardness into data
• It shows how fragile “normal” really is
⸻
5. Exchange Theory (the sneaky one)
Key idea: Relationships involve give-and-take—even when money isn’t involved.
Friendships, popularity, favors, attention, likes—all exchanges.
• “I text first, they don’t.”
• “I listen to them, they ignore me.”
• “Why am I doing all the work?”
It’s practical sociology. No jargon required.
⸻
A golden rule for teens
Let’s take functionalism, tiptoe into statistics, and keep it human, amusing, and usable for everyone, including a curious young teen.
- Macro Sociology

⸻
Functionalism (aka: “What job is this thing doing?”)
At its heart, functionalism asks a very simple, very sneaky question:
“What does this do for the system?”
Not is it good?
Not do we like it?
Just: what role does it play?
This approach is most closely associated with Émile Durkheim, who liked to look at society the way a biologist looks at a body.
The body metaphor (works every time)
• Heart → pumps blood
• Lungs → oxygen
• Stomach → digestion
If one part stops working, the whole body feels it.
Functionalism says:
• Schools do something
• Families do something
• Media does something
• Even crime does something (that part always wakes people up)
“Society is like a group project—everyone has a role, even the annoying parts.”
⸻
The fun twist: Functions vs Side Effects
Functionalists distinguish between:
• Intended functions (what something is supposed to do)
• Unintended consequences (what it also does)
Example:
• School
• Intended: education
• Unintended: sorting people, stress, friendships, boredom, confidence, labels
This is where it stops being boring and starts being real.
⸻
A gentle, friendly dip into statistics 📊
(no math trauma, I promise)
Statistics at this level are just counting patterns, not equations.
You can say:
• “Most”
• “More likely”
• “Less common”
• “On average”
That’s already statistics.
A simple example everyone gets
“Most people brush their teeth every day.”
That tells us:
• Brushing teeth is normal
• There’s social pressure to do it
• Dentists exist because this behavior is common
Functionalist question:
“What function does tooth-brushing serve for society?”
Answers (no calculator required):
• Health
• Social comfort (no one wants dragon breath)
• Jobs (dentists, toothpaste makers)
• Norms (“eww, you didn’t brush?”)
Boom. Statistics without fear.
⸻
Ask this question:
“How many people actually follow this rule?”
Pick something tiny:
• Stop signs on empty roads
• Washing hands for the full 20 seconds
• Reading terms and conditions
Then ask:
“If lots of people don’t follow it… why does the rule still exist?”
That’s functionalism meeting statistics in real life.
⸻
The big idea (phrased for all of us)
Here’s a sentence that works for teens and grownups:
“Functionalism helps us see why things stick around, even when we complain about them.”
Schools
Grades
Money
Bureaucracy
Even small talk
If it didn’t serve some function, it wouldn’t survive very long.
⸻
One important caution (and this matters)
Functionalism explains how things work, not whether they’re fair.
That’s a powerful teaching moment:
• Something can function
• And still be harmful
• And still need changing
That opens the door to conflict theory later—without starting a food fight.
⸻
Conflict theory starts with a feeling people already know very well:
“Hey… that’s not fair.”
That feeling? That’s basically Conflict Theory knocking on the door.
⸻
Conflict Theory (aka: “Who gets what—and who doesn’t?”)
Conflict theory asks one big, slightly suspicious question:
“Who benefits from the way things are set up?”
And its most famous voice belongs to Karl Marx.
Marx wasn’t staring into crystal balls—he was looking at factories, wages, owners, and workers and saying:
“Hang on… some people work a lot and get very little, and some people work very little and get a lot.”
⸻
The pizza analogy 🍕
Imagine:
• 10 people
• 1 pizza
• 2 people decide how it’s cut
Scenario A:
• Everyone gets a slice
Scenario B:
• Two people take half the pizza
• Everyone else fights over crumbs
Conflict theory asks:
• Who cut the pizza?
• Who decided the rules?
• Who says this is “normal”?
Key teen-friendly line:
“Conflict theory is about who’s holding the pizza cutter.”
⸻
Marx’s basic idea (no beard required)
Marx divided society (very roughly) into:
• Those who own stuff (factories, companies, land)
• Those who work for them
The owners want:
• Profit
• Control
• Stability
Workers want:
• Fair pay
• Time
• Dignity
That creates conflict—not because people are bad, but because their interests don’t match.
⸻
“Conflict theory reminds us that when someone says
‘This system works perfectly,’
the next question is:
‘Perfectly for who?’”
A soft introduction to statistics 📊
No math. Just noticing patterns.
Ask:
• “Who usually has more money?”
• “Who usually has more power?”
• “Who usually makes the rules?”
If the same group keeps winning, that’s not coincidence—that’s structure.
• “Most CEOs earn way more than workers.”
• “A small number of people own a lot of stuff.”
• “Most people work for someone else.”
⸻
School as a conflict example (careful but real)
Conflict theory doesn’t say:
“School is evil.”
It asks:
• Who decides what counts as “success”?
• Who benefits from grades?
• Who struggles—and why?
This connects beautifully to:
• Stress
• Pressure
• Competition
• Labels
⸻
The big idea (for all of us)
“Conflict theory helps us see that disagreement isn’t a failure of society—it’s built into how society works.”
And another good one:
“If everyone agreed all the time, nothing would ever change.”
⸻
Important balance (this matters)
Conflict theory:
• Explains inequality
• Highlights power
• Encourages questioning
But it doesn’t explain everything—just like functionalism doesn’t.
That’s the beauty:
• Functionalism asks how things hold together
• Conflict theory asks why some people feel squeezed
Both can be true at the same time.
⸻This is the Universe city of OTT
Urdintroductionjune13
The Universe city of Ott, established in 1995, is a de-institutionalized example of public education. The principle purpose of this establishment is to develop within ScOtt an understanding of the nature of Ott.
Contemporary Social History (CSH pronounced sssshh) is a course ScOtt is developing at the Universe city of Ott. The course is designed as an audio visual presentation.

CONTACTOtt2006
Practical consciousness as opposed to discursive consciousness. Anthony Giddens

Nothing that follows is important. It will not change your life. You have to do that. I am concerned, however, that someone could be misled so I think it would be wise to start off with a little warning. Sociology, not ScOtt, is a wild ride. It can be confusing or so common senscical you have to wonder why they mentioned it at all. It can be inspiring, or depressing. For me it just works. I don’t want to turn people off of sociology. I think it’s got a lot of Merit. but I don’t know the subject very well. I’ve got a little bit of help here and I’ll take advantage of that but if the subject really intrigues you, there’s lots of references here to help you on your way.
I want to continue my studies i believe in lifelong education and in directing that education myself, I think occasionally reconnecting with university, but as we go, we’ll see if that’s in the books. I’m into it one day and not the next, so we’ll see.
This is the only radio show in Dawson City that uses Sosillyology to understand the world. Sosillyology tries to incorporate music and humor and personal life in this project. Lots of times it might not quite work but it’s me and the mistakes are sometimes better than the intention. It’s the Wabi Sabi influence.
Thankyou CFYT for allowing me this space at 106.9fm the spirit of Dawson, Tuesday night 10 to midnight, to broadcast “UcOtt Raddio Daddio”. And a big massi cho to the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in. (Who are playing a bigger role than they. know in my. education).
Yoko Ono is also a part of my heritage. Yoko’s art is an essential component of my Walks.
Mohammad Ali, Martin Luther King, Ghandi most importantly Mr. Silman and I’ll go into that a little later.
Muhammad Ali Roberto Duran Jackie Robinson, Tennis football soccer olympics
Warning this show is for mature minded individuals.
Duhmocery Democracy
I’ve been working on a show that I really want to play with. It’s not important, so I’ll put it on Friday night 10 to 12. It’s a podcast, posing as a radio show so that I can use the music and such that I want. CFYT has the rights to the music and I have the ‘rights’ to the “and such part.”
I’ve done something like this before and it really pushed me to think and work in a field that I really enjoy sociology. I also like humour of a sort, and music of lots of sorts so your pants and lets get into it.
Duhmocery Democracy
What brings me back at this point is Donald Trump. Now you can’t help noticing the polarizing nature of US politics, and many of you may run when you hear his name. That’s a good plan if political crap gets you down. I want to make this a fun show but clearly different people will see this differently as it should be. I’m looking for people that don’t mind joking around about politics, and like to listen to great music. I got a bunch of that. Don’t take this show too seriously cause i am an idiot. Yes I have an honours degree from UBC after which I became a janitor and made my fortune. I majored in Sociology which continues to inform and fascinate me.
I am serious and that should make you laugh, but I love this world. I want to be a part of it and while I’m outrageously optimistic, we are in a bit of a fix, as I see it. We are in the middle of duhmocery democracy.
I don’t know for sure, but I think the American election of Donald Trump for the second time is the defining definition of duhmockery democracy. I think the American public for the most part knew who Donald Trump really was and voted for him in a mostly fair election. We have a new president.
What makes a lot of my relatives forgive me who would’ve voted for Trump if they had the opportunity is that I didn’t like Biden much better than I do Trump and I probably would’ve voted for somebody like Ralph Nader, Jill Stein, maybe but thing is I don’t go there either. I do my voting up here and actually I’ve seen a lot of guys up in the Yukon that I’d vote for Sandy Silver actually seem like a really decent guy. Of course I don’t know But I’d probably vote green anyways if I could, I’m not sure depends. We’ll see we’ll see cause our boats coming up folks.
Warning there is no original material here. This is all picked from brains of people who I think write well and professors that I thought were or are quite bright and good communicators and I appreciated their contributions. I’m hoping I can contribute a little bit here, but it is just my attempt at synthesizing my introduction to sociology and I call it sosillyology.
I feel in need to put the silly in sociology because a lot of what I’m gonna have to say is not really from sociologist as much as it is from people who write about social things so Carl Marx wasn’t a sociologist. He was a historian and a pretty good one. But most sociologists consider Marx to be foundational. Contributor. As is max weber
But even more than that as you’ll see in chapter 2, where we tackle technology, I make total use of artificial intelligence in the sense of ChatGPT to craft this particular work, so it’s not really me. You blame chat or some of those really smart sociologist and their ilk .
These are the subjects I’d like to address,
1. Introduction. Peace
Play a song Blackbird by The Beatles sung by Emma Steven’s Mick Mac artist
Then gene wilder clip
Brief intro UcOtt Universe city of OTT
Wabi Sabi
Harm reduction. Safe injection sites
UcOtt – Universe city of Ott where ScOtt gets an education
OTT double cross
Ott Over the top. Is my last name and stands as My philosophy…. Be nice (this is what the course is designed to teach “me”).
Wabi Sabi celebration of imperfect impermanent incomplete(my understanding) is embedded in OTT.
exchange theory humans skinner behaviourism (radical version.
i’m highly influenced by Newtonian Mechanics behaviourism as in Skinners version (my definition) but I tend to focus on social institutions and such
genetics are also a force as I see things, but not in the conventional way such as eugenics.
ee cummings. I wish to use lower case “i” but it is not easy with spell correct engaged. I have to figure that out yet.
Free speech. Important but I need to define it.
Crash course sociology. “Many a person has played the armchair, sociologists at some point in their lives, spoutting off about how they think society really works because of their own experience or the experience of their friends brother‘s roommate we all do it, but having personal opinions about the world doesn’t make you a sociologist. This is where sociological research comes in. It helps us understand societies patterns even when they go against our intuition rather than using our gut to answer questions we use a research method a systematic plan for gathering and analyzing observations about the world this is where we’re gonna learn how to do sociology.”
use peace as the subject and talk about how sociology is tied into the universe city of OTT
